Outspokenideas

Ever yearn to return to the days of small, intimate theater? Maybe the '70s
without the then-required nudity? Ok, here's a theater for you. You enter
through an alley. Then you continue on downstairs to the basement.
And when the curtain rises--ooops, there's no curtain, really--but when Bruce
Pachtman struts onto the stage, toting his lone prop and sits right down on
it, you know you're in for a close-up look at a man who's gonna tell you his
 story straight up and personal.

And it's the story of a love and more than a little lust for a slightly
off-center woman, one who will dole out her love in such uneven and psychotic
spurts that it keeps good ol' Bruce on an emotional roller coaster for most
of his life. This is a play that invites you to interact in that old time vill
ain gets a groan, good guy gets the applause sorta way. Especially if you've
 been there before.
The play is written and performed by Bruce himself. You can make reservations
(and see a map to the theater) on his website. You can also get 2 bucks off
on the tickets. Check it out, go see the play, and let me know what you think.
You'll have a great time and you'll be supporting someone who is absolutely
passionate about small theater. There are great restaurants in the area, of
course, because the theater is in the heart of North Beach. How can you loose?

Don't Make Me Look Too Psychotic
By Bruce Pachtman
A surprisingly very funny look at a bad relationship, creating an
autobiographical framework for Bruce to wield his creative energy and reflect
on other experiences that might have contributed to his relationship with
Gloria. The couple exhibit the characteristics that sum up exactly what it
means to be dysfunctional: taking turns controlling each other with sex,
mind games, alcohol and the like.
Besides being incredibly funny, you might actually learn something.

Hi Mr. Pachtman,
I hope you don't mind me sending you an email re: your performance. I was in
town last week (visiting home, hanging with friends, escaping from my
stressful-thank-god-it's-only-temporary situation in San Diego...oh, where
was I? Ah yes...in town last week) and a friend of mine had been dying to
see your piece (ahem, performance, that is.hee eh) for weeks so finally
went cuz I was around. I saw it last Friday, and I must say (before I go off
on another tangent) that it was awesome! I really really enjoyed it! I was
there with two of my other of my female friends and we couldn't stop talking
about it afterwards. In addition, I was so excited about it, I told everyone
I could (before I came back) to go and check it out. I wanted to send the
kind words sooner, but only found your bill today which somehow made it to
the bottom of my somewhat bottomless abyss, commonly known as my purse.
Anyway, I know it may not be much to receive praise from some random
stranger, but I figured what the hey...it's always good to give/receive a
little bit of props every now and then, right? You're extremely talented and
I hope that you keep up the great work. Even though Spalding Grey is my
secret boyfriend (haha!), I rarely ever get to see solo performances in
cultureless San Diego (oh no, I'm not bitter) so I love watching them
whenever I get the chance and your performance last Friday was definitely
refreshing! You know (one last thought), the entire weekend I was home, the
running topic of discussion b/w my friends and I was about relationships and
your play put a nice cap/umbrella/overall-good-feeling on the whole issue.
 Thanks!
I'm planning on going home in about 2-3 weeks and hopefully if your play is
still running, I may be tempted to have to go see it just one more time.
 Keep up the great work.
whew! damn, this was long....can you tell I really liked it?? :-)
Take care,
Sheila.

I loved your play! I saw it while
I was on a first date and it "broke the ice." It was great (the date too!)
I've never been to a solo performance and it was very exciting to watch and I
love the fact that it was something from your life. I look forward to seeing
 more of your work.
I'm telling all my friends to see it.
Thanks! Jennifer

Dear Bruce,
I had forgotten how talented you are.
The show is so wonderfully written, staged, and so honestly performed. You
were very funny, serious, and extremely entertaining.
Bruce I was deeply engrossed in your brilliantly written story.
I loved how you played Gloria, your mom, and of course yourself.
I felt your pain from your mom and from Gloria and then I rejoiced with you
when you got laid and finally left Gloria. I really admire the way you handle
yourself always trying to defuse situations.
Bruce, you were great and your play is a wonderful slice of your life.
I wish you the best of luck with it.
If you want to ask me anything in particular about your show, please do so.
Best wishes,
Marc
