RON JONES' BIOGRAPHY:
Ron Jones is best known as a storyteller. His work is widely recognized in Europe, he is frequently invited to speak in Germany and Denmark. Jones has been a high school teacher, basketball coach, and is the founder Of Zephyros Education Exchange, a network of teachers who share ideas and learning materials.

The experiment "The Wave" led to Jones' eventual firing as a public school teacher
in Palo Alto in 1969.

Since 1978 Jones has been Director of Physical Education at the R.C.H.,Inc. (formerly the Recreation Center for the Handicapped) in San Francisco where he coaches the San Francisco Special Olympic Basketball Team
which has never lost a game.

Three of Jones' books "THE ACORN PEOPLE" (NBC TV Special), "THE WAVE"  (ABC TV Special) and "B-BALL" (NBC Movie of the Week) have been made into award winning TV dramas receiving Emmy, Peabody
and Golden Globe honors.

"THE  ACORN PEOPLE" was "Christmas Book of the Year" in 1984 and "SAY RAY" won "American Book of the Year".

Ron's work has earned a Peabody Award for outstanding journalism for
"THE WAVE" and two Pulitzer Prize nominations for "Kids Called Crazy" and "SAY RAY".

Ron has published 23 Activity Texts for the Elementary and Secondary Classroom and authored 10 plays.

The child of an interfaith marriage, Jones whose mother was Jewish, was not raised a Jew. His parents celebrated Christmas, "but we went to synagogue whenever the relatives came to town or for weddings and Bar Mitzvahs", he said.

He credits his Jewish grandmother with influencing his interest in storytelling. "What I remember most about Jewish life is the dinner table
 and listening to her stories.

Magazines and television media who have reported on Ron Jones' work over the years are: New York Times, Christian Monitor, Der  Spiegel, People, In These Times, CTA Action, California Living, The Whole Earth Review, Psychology Today, Readers Digest, Books West, Disabled USA, Good Morning America, Phil Donahue Show, NBC Sports, New Dimensions Radio, and National Public Radio.

Ron frequently conducts workshops and lectures at the
Holocaust Center in San Francisco.

Ron graduated from Stanford University in 1966 with an MA in Education and International Relations plus a minor in Sports. "THE WAVE" occurred
 during his first year of teaching.
